Disease Dogs - Canine Parvovirus

Canine Parvovirus

Canine Parvovirus is a highly contagious canine disease.
This virus has a tendency to attack the rapidly reproducing cells in the digestive tract.

The virus is in the feces dog a few weeks after infection.

The disease is transmitted through oral contact with feces, dog hair or feet of infected dogs.
,
Parvo affects dogs of any age, but most cases occur in puppies 6 to 20 weeks of age, especially in Doberman Pinschers and Rottweilers as the reason for lower resistance in this species.

Parvo disease begins with depression, vomiting, and diarrhea. Some dogs have a fever of 41.1 ° C.
Continuous diarrhea containing mucus and / or blood dehydration growing rapidly.

Routine vaccination for pregnant dogs two to four weeks increases levels of maternal antibodies and provide better protection for the puppies.

Treatment:
Dogs with this disease require intensive animal management. In all but the mildest cases, hospitalization is very important to correct the electrolyte imbalance and dehydration. Intravenous fluids and medicines to control vomiting and diarrhea often necessary. More severe cases may require a blood transfusion and other intensive care.
Puppies and dogs should not eat or drink until the vomiting stops required the support of fluids during that time.
Antibiotics were prescribed 3-5 days to prevent bacterial septicemia and other complications, which is the usual cause of death.

The result depends on the virulence of specific strains of parvovirus, age and immune status of the dog, and how quickly treatment begins. Most puppies who are under the care of animal well healed without complications.

Prevention:
Sterilize place from infected animals. Parvo is a virus that is resistant very strong household cleaners and most enduring in place for months. The most effective disinfectant is household bleach in 1:32 dilution. Bleach should be left on the contaminated surface for 20 minutes before rinsing.

Vaccination:
starting with the age of 8 weeks, will prevent most (but not all) cases of parvovirus infection. During the first weeks of life, puppies are protected by maternal antibodies.
From 2-4 weeks pups susceptible to infection because vaccination is not yet fully effect.
Dogs between 6 and 20 weeks of age can be very susceptible to parvo.

Almost all of vaccination failure due to this vulnerable period
,
Most recent parvo vaccine narrow window of vulnerability.
,
However, it is important !! to isolate the puppy as much as possible from other dogs from potential sources of infection until they complete series parvo vaccination at the age of 16 weeks.

Recommendation:
